Preparatory courses
Preparatory courses for foreign students who are planning to enter the Vocational Secondary Education, BA, MA and Post-graduate programmes of the Gnessins Russian Academy of Music.
Preparatory courses will let you reach your potential and adapt to our creative environment. The Academy welcomes foreign students who don’t speak Russian or those who are at A1-A2 level of speaking for Preparatory courses. The Preparatory course lasts 1 year (from 1st October till 30th June). You can repeat this programme if you need.
The Preparatory course consists of intensive programme of learning the Russian language and one music discipline of your choice.
The lessons are conducted by highly-qualified professors with the help of the most up-to-date materials and educational technologies. The students of the Preparatory courses actively take part in artistic activities and concerts in the Academy. We have unique and individual approach for each foreign student in the Academy.

Can you describe your work during 2020?
Starting from 7th February 2022, all the restrictions due to COVID-19 are cancelled. Speaking of efficiency, 70% of our course students go to our educational institutions and other Moscow music universities. We believe that this is a decent indicator, since many factors affect admission: stress, stage fright, huge competition (CIS, China, South Corea come to us), the applicant’s motivation. And here, our direct task is to eliminate the gaps, to give knowledge and “keys” to successfully passing the exams, – says the head of the Preparatory Department of the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music Ksenia Shulekina. – Foreign students found themselves in a difficult situation due to the situation with the entry into the territory of the Russian Federation. We are conducting a dialogue with our founding organization (the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation) and jointly trying to influence the situation.
Can you describe e-learning process during 2020/2021?
Alas, now we can only offer e-learning for foreign students, since they were unable to enter the Russian Federation. It must be admitted that despite all the difficulties, we work closely with the teaching staff and with students and try to make us aware of their problems and needs. I cannot say that the quality of education has decreased. On the contrary, teachers and students have mobilized and are trying their best to comprehend the Russian language and music science. Moreover, in such a difficult epidemiological situation, it is better when you are at home. Everything around you is in your native language and you feel safe.
Note that preparatory courses allow high school students to replenish and systematize the knowledge gained at a music school. By entering the courses, you will study with a teacher who knows the specifics of the Gnessin entrance examinations and will give an appropriate program that will help the applicant to perform on the entrance examinations as successfully as possible. Classes are held within the walls of music colleges and academies, this is what allows course participants to feel the atmosphere of student life, the Gnessin’s spirit, eliminate stress and anxiety during the entrance examinations.
